Don't Ask, Don't Tell

With this abhorrent military policy recently upheld in the US, in spite of the promises of Mr. O., I thought it time once again to present the above cartoon, which just about says it all, n'est pas?

  1. I saw something similar to this on Facebook. It is the perfect question to ask to perhaps stop this idiocy about who can and can't serve our different countries in whatever way they are willing.

  2. Ahhh what a depressing yet poignant cartoon.... People of all kinds die for the Empire but still do not get the same respect...

  3. Thank you for posting this. Why this is even an issue eludes me. These young warriors deserve to be honored and respected for their unselfish sacrifices. I, for one, am deeply grateful.

  4. While I agree with the spirit of the cartoon, WWW - who wouldn't? - Nowadays, rather than looking on those who join the military, in any country, as heroic, I'm more and more leaning towards what's expressed in Buffy Sainte Marie's old song "The Universal Soldier".

    UNIVERSAL SOLDIER

    He is five foot two,
    anbd he's six feet four,
he fights with missiles and with spears,
    he is all of thirty-one,
    and he's only a seventeen,
's been a soldier for thousands years.

    He's a Catolic, a Hindy,
    an atheist, A Chein,
    A Buddhist, a Baptist and a Jew,
and he knows, he shouldn't kill,
and he knows, he always will,
care for me, my friend, and I will care for you.

    And he's fighting for Canada,
    he's fighting for France,
    he's fighting for the USA
and he's fighting for the Russains,
    he's fihgting for Japan,
and he thinks we put an end to war this way.

    And he's fighting for democrazy,
    he's fighting for the Reds,
he says it's for the peace of all,
he's the one who must decide,
who's to live and who's to die,
and he never sees the writing on the wall.

And without him, how would Hitler
    kill the people at Dachau,
without him Cesar would have stood alone,
he's the one, who gives his body
as a weapon of the war,
and without him always killing cant gho on.

    He's the universal soldier,
and he really is to blame,
his orders came from far away, no more,
they came from here and there,
and you and me and brothers,
    can't you see,
this is not the way we put an end to war.

  6. T:
Well you know where I stand on war!
I've always loved this song but while young men and women are kept in poverty and ignorance there will be no end to the cannon fodder for the vast military industrial complex, gay or otherwise.
And then to have DADT on top of this enrages me.

  7. It seems ignorance and phobia rules in the great democracy of the world.
